About Kotor

Kotor is one of the oldest towns and ports on the Adriatic. The town is tucked away within its walls, which are the second longest in Europe (4.5 km). It was founded and built by the Romans in the 9th century. Kotor is part of the UNESCO cultural heritage and a magnificent tourist destination in Boka Bay in Montenegro.

Because of the four centuries long Venetian rule, Kotor is characterized by typical Venetian architecture, which makes it unique. During the 16th century, Renaissance literature contributed to the further development of the town: the most famous writers included Bernard Pima, Nicola Chierlo, Luca Bisanti, Alberto de Gliricis, Domenico and Vincenzo Burchia, Vincenzo Ceci, Antonio Zambella, and Francesco Morandi.

Today, Kotor is the most visited destination in Montenegro with a constant increase in the number of visitors. With its architecture, maritime schools and Venetian charm, Kotor is a wonderful destination you simply must visit. The old town will take you back to the Middle Ages.

Where to stay in Boka Bay

Boka Bay is a unique destination for passengers on cruise ships and yachts. Its location allows you to visit other interesting destinations in Montenegro. If you want more excitement, you can book day trips or rent a car.

For a stay in Kotor, we recommend nearby fishing villages such as Perast or Risan. These villages were once home to famous Montenegrin sailors.

Perast and Risan are beautiful, small settlements with enchanting architecture and a wonderful atmosphere. Risan appears as if cut off from the rest of the bay. Here you can find Roman mosaics from the 2nd century AD. Perast, with its two islands, Our Lady of the Rocks and St. Đorđe is a real tourist attraction. You can visit the town museum and the unique collection of exhibits in the church of Our Lady of the Rocks.

What to do in Kotor

First of all, the places we recommend to visit are the Maritime Museum of Montenegro, then the Cathedral of St. Tryphon, one of the oldest in Europe, numerous other historical monuments that abound in the old town, many squares and palaces, the Gurdić bastion, the Bembo bastion, the town guard tower, etc.

In the Old Town of Kotor you can find numerous shops and boutiques.

In Kotor you will find small restaurants serving the best dishes of Mediterranean and Balkan cuisine.

In front of the Old Town main gate, across from the Kotor waterfront, there is a charming, small green market. Old residents of Kotor remember it as a place where people have always gathered to exchange goods. Today, the green market offers bio and eco food.

Nightlife in Kotor, like in all other countries, includes night clubs, bars and discotheques. You can have fun in the Old Town, and outside the walls of the Old Town of Kotor. Parties in bars last until 1 a.m., and then continue in several well-known discotheques.
