Environment protection

The Company’s top management has adopted and applies and maintains a quality and environmental protection policy that:

a)    is in line with the purpose and context of the Company, supports the strategic direction and includes the nature, scope and impact of its activities and services on the environment;
b)    provides a framework for setting quality objectives and environmental goals;
c)    includes commitment to environmental protection, including pollution prevention and other specific forms of commitment relevant to the organization’s context;
d)    includes a commitment to meet applicable requirements, i.e. a commitment to fulfilling its compliance obligations;
e)    includes a commitment to continuous improvement of QMS and EMS.

The integrated management system (IMS) in the Company includes the quality management system (QMS) defined by the ISO 9001:2015 standard and the environmental management system (EMS) defined by the ISO 14001:2015 standard.

Supervision and jurisdiction

The competent state administration authority that carries out the inspection of vessels is the “Navigation Safety Inspection” as the flag State of domestic vessels and foreign vessels as the port State. According to the Law on Ports (Official Gazette of Montenegro no. 51/2008, 40/2011, 27/2013 and 18/2019), in accordance with Article 26 of the Law, the administration authority, or the legal entity and the concessionaire ensure the fulfilment of the requirements specified by international and domestic regulations governing the prevention of environmental pollution from ships, the protection of the marine environment and the coastal region, and civil liability for damage caused by pollution. According to the Decree on maintaining order in ports, the Port Authority is authorized to control port facilities, devices and equipment that may endanger human life, navigation or pollute the coast and water, and the port user is required to clean the water surfaces and seashore in the port and anchorages of oily and other substances.

Monitoring and response in case of incidents

The Directorate of Maritime Safety and Port Management takes care of possible environmental incidents in the water area, while environmental monitoring is handled by the Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro, carrying out the required measurements through its subcontractors (Centre for Ecotoxicological Research, Institute for Marine Biology, etc.) to determine the pollution and condition of our environment.

All vessels entering the port of Kotor are required to comply with the “Rules of conduct and ecological prevention in the Port of Kotor (LKO 31)”.
